F.A.Q.
This page is intended to answer the most frequently asked questions pertaining to the sport of wrestling.
(For more information see the Parents Guide to Youth Wrestling under the Jr Club Information - Handouts)

Q) Does my wrestler need any equipment?

A) Your wrestler will require a pair of wrestling shoes that you can purchase at most sporting good stores or on-line.  If you wrestle in any USA sanctioned tournaments your wrestler is required to have headgear.  You can purchase this at most sporting good stores or for a better selection go on-line for this item.  Mouth guards are required only if your child has braces.

Q) Where can I get a uniform?

A)The Wentzville Holt Wrestling Club (WHWC) supplies all of its wrestlers with a team singlet.  All you have to do is turn in a deposit check of $75.00 and we will give your wrestler a singlet.  The deposit check is not cashed unless you do not return this singlet at the end of the season.
Q) How long is the season?

A) Wrestling typically begins the first part of November and runs thru the end of end of March.

Q) Are there tournaments?

A) There are many tournaments around the state.  We as a club decide on which tournaments that we will attend and we will then let you know which ones we will be attending.  We usually pick a AAU or USA tournament that we know is run well from past history. There are many weekends that you could attend one tournament on Saturday and one tournament on Sunday. On any given weekend you may elect to attend a tournament different than the one the we chose for the club but you will be on your own for the signup and coaching at a non-club tournament.

Q) How do I enter into a tournament?

A) We supply each wrestler a Handbook at the beginning of the season that contains tournament information that we have to date. We will provide more inofrmation about the upcoming tournaments as the season goes on. We require that you fill out a tournament entry form and turn it in with payment prior to the deadline that we will give you.  Make your check payable to the Wentzville Holt Wrestling Club. We submit one check to the host club after we have all of our entries.

Q) I heard that you can get skin conditions from wrestling....is that true?

A) Skin conditions are very common in wrestling.  The skin conditions are all avoidable if the wrestlers follow a few general guidelines. There are several antibacterial foams available to help cut down and even prevent the skin conditions.  We will cover this in greater length at the Parents Meeting at the start of the season.

Q) Who is allowed to Coach?

A) At WHWC we allow some parents to help out.  We do require you to have had some wrestling experience or knowledge.  We also remind you that when you are mat side you are representing WHWC and any unsportsmanlike conduct can result in your removal from our club.

Q) If my wrestler decides to quit can I get a refund?

A) We’re sorry but there are no refunds given.  The reason for that is after you register we register your wrestler with both AAU and USA Wrestling and we pay those organizations for your wrestler tobe able to wrestle in sanctioned AAU and USA events. The money that you paid at registration is paid to these organizations for your competitor cards.

Q) Is there any work duties at WHWC?

Q) Is there any work duties at WHWC?

A) Yes there is one expectation of every family and that is to work our tournaments that we host every year.  We understand that both parents are not normally available to work but we are requiring at least one parent to be available to work our tournament.  The work duties include but are not limited to:  Concessions, table workers, set up & break down of the tournament.

Q) Do I have to do any fundraising?

A) We have not require you to do any fundraising in the past. Typically we have utilized our tournaments to rais the necessary funds to keep the club going on a year to year basis. That is why it is o important for everyone to help out and work our tournaments.

Q) What if I miss a tournament?

A) If you registered for a tournament and cannot attend you need to call me or the hosting club to report your abscence.  That way I am not looking for you or calling you to check.  The money that you paid for that tournament is non-refundable or transferable.

Q) Can my wrestler get hurt?

A) As with all sports injuries can occur.  Wrestling is a very intensive sport and injuries are something that we do not see on a regular basis but it is something that can happen.  If your wrestler has a health condition please have him checked out by a doctor prior to starting the season.  Let your doctor know that this is the sport that your child would like to partake in and make sure your doctor says it is ok for your child to do
